Powerful and Perky

Wow. It’s been quite a week. I am working on a TON of new projects that I will be able to announce at the beginning of Fashion Week. Think: fashion, supermodels, technology, accessories and shoes. It’s all amazing and exciting it’s just a lot of work to organize and orchestrate but soon enough everything will be up and running.

That said, it’s been a lot of flats, slippers, 14-hour workdays, and sadly, that means not a lot of styling and not a lot of shopping. Good thing I have shoe-loving friends who are quick to report back on new finds! The birthday girl today is Olivia, and my favorite High Rise Hostess (www.highrisehostess.com) went and picked herself out a nice birthday present at Bloomingdales yesterday. Word is that there is quite the sale going on so I might have to take a 5-minute break today and run on over.

I love these Via Spiga boots with that front flap! Such an architectural design, perfect for dressing up a pair of black pants, or just to show the world that you are in charge! But the sharp angles don’t put them out of range of being worn with a skirt or a solid colored dress.

It’s Laced

I am not scared to throw on a pair of Timberlands—especially when they look like this. This grey and black number has been in my office for over a week now and I’ve resisted the urge to wear them because it’s been snowy and muddy on the streets and they are a sample. Over a pair of skinny jeans with a black t-shirt is just my style so if these go on sale anytime soon, I’m getting a pair.

The snow is falling and the transportation in NYC in the snow is always a mess so I’m working from one side of the couch while Kenny works on the other side of the couch. He wears headphones and listens to house music, and I watch All My Children. We can pretty much do this for hours and not talk to each other until it’s time for lunch, which I believe today will be mimosas.

Have a nice weekend!

Morning with Minkoff

I went to my first press preview of 2011 today, and it feels great to be back! It’s crisp outside, but the spring and summer styles being previewed warm me right up. I love going to designer showrooms because they are so unassuming. Unlike the retail stores, which boast beautiful storefronts in great locations, the true workrooms and showrooms are usually in the heart of the garments district. You go down some crappy street in the west 30s, go up a freight elevator, and the doors open up to beautiful loft spaces with floor to ceiling windows with natural light and the newest shoes and handbags and clothing coming right off the sewing machines. It’s like a hidden little world and I’m always so glad to be apart of it.

I hung out with Rebecca Minkoff today and we talked fashion. Her spring, summer, and pre-fall bags and shoes are being shown now and she has some adorable stuff. She’s working with a lot of different blue hues for the bags, but kept a lot of the footwear nice and neutral. I particularly like these grey and metallic snakeskin peep toe wedges, and below is the designer herself and some more of her new shoes.

Louboutin Love

Check these out! As my dear friend Alexandra Anza is spending the last few days of her Christmas break laying on the beach in Puerto Rico, she can’t be all too sad to come home to snowy New York with this new gift! I haven’t seen them in person yet, but I can’t wait to! Compliments of her husband Joey, this snakeskin and black Louboutin slingback is surely a tribute to his exquisite taste. And they are much deserved! Ali gave Joey a beautiful baby boy named Enzo this past year so an amazing Christmas present is surely deserved.

New Year, New Shoe

Well kids, although it’s been great sitting around the house and working from home for the last week, I’m getting excited to go back to New York and see what’s going on. At this point I’m all caught up on Bridal Plasty, Celebrity Rehab and Married to Rock, so there really isn’t any more horrible reality TV to entertain me now. So tomorrow it’s back to Mercer Street, check up on what’s going on at work and see about hitting some last minute after Christmas sales.

I’m kind of out of the loop as far as new shoe trends right now, but the fashion assistants have been busy in the office so I’m excited to see what’s been pulled. My slipper-clad feet are excited to put on a pair of 5-inchers and strengthen up these ankles.

I’m in the process of developing some new ideas for a new job (more on that later) and also looking at apartments in Jersey City. I absolutely love the neighborhood, and the fact that the subway gets me to work in about ten minutes, and love the huge converted warehouse loft apartments we’ve been looking at so hoping that move goes quickly.

Looking forward to a very transitional 2011 filled with boots, sandals, flats, stilettos and patent leather. This is a shot of last year’s Stuart Weitzman’s $2 million shoes. Just dreaming big for the new year, and thinking that these would go perfectly with my wedding dress.

Stripe Club

The photo doesn’t pick up the color very well, but these platform stilettos from Pour le Victoire are actually a light pink sherbet color with thin black stripes. The height of the platform makes them truly stunning and they work with any color.  Certainly a good choice for New Year's Eve, if you are one of those people can bounce back from a little cocktail splash. If you are a neat freak though, I’d stick to a black shoe on this rowdy night.

Comfy, Cozy, Merry, and Warm

Well Merry Christmas all! Over the last few days I’ve gotten in the habit of doing absolutely nothing so I’ve forgotten to update. So, the snow has been coming down around this area. Yes, it was a good storm, but come on; I grew up in Rochester and went to school in Oswego. This was nothing…like, literally nothing compared to that. However, when I try to tell people this, I always end up sounding like a crotchety elderly person— “When I was your age, I used to march uphill in snow higher than my head, with wind whipping, to get to class.”

The sad thing about this statement is that it’s true—very true. Nonetheless, these cites don’t have the infrastructure to support this much snowfall at once, so it does end up completely debilitating any transportation.

Lucky for me, I’m off work until after the New Year so I’m slipping my feet into these babies. I asked for one present this year from my dear Kenny and that was slippers. We are working on moving, and planning a wedding, and since he gave me the most beautiful diamond ring this year, we weren’t really going big on presents, so I asked for slippers, and he went above and beyond and got me these beautiful Uggs sheepskin slippers for my pretty little feet to rest themselves after a long day in heels.

Or in the case of this week, long days where you don’t have to go outside and put any shoes on at all.
